The Authority of the Beliver

The Bible says Satan had the power of death – but Jesus conquered him.  Jesus says in Revelation 1:18, “I am he that liveth and was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”  Jesus Christ took the keys of hell and of death from the devil, glory to God!  Keys belong to the Authorized One.  These are the keys of authority.  We must remember that physical death is not of God; it is of the enemy.  Death is still an enemy.  The Bible says it is the last enemy that will be put underfoot.  Thank God!!  After Jesus stripped the demonic powers of their authority , “he made a show of them openly triumphing over them in it” (Col. 2:15)  Paul’s statement here refers to the fact that Christ was elevated above His enemies to the right hand of the Father.  Believers have authority  over the devil.  They can break the power of the devil if he raises his head anywhere in their own life.

In Ephesians  1:22-23, the scripture says, “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church.”   God’s plan for us is that we rule and reign in life as kings.  He wants us to rule over poverty, diseases, and everything else that would hinder us.  We reign because we have authority.  We reign by Jesus Christ.  Remember Colossians 1:13 says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.”  God has delivered us from the power of Satan, therefore, we have power and authority over Him and his demons.

When Christ ascended to the Father, He transferred His authority to the Church.  He is the Head of the Church, and believers make up the Body.  Christ’s authority has to be enforced, on Earth, through the members that make up his Body.  Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father — the place of Authority — and we’re seated with Him.  Ephesians 2:5,6 declares, “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Jesus Christ.”  The right hand of the throne of God is the center of power of the whole universe.  We, as believers, are sitting with him on the Throne and sharing his authority.   We have a divine right to rule and reign over Satan and his demons.  We partake of the authority that Christ’s throne represents.  The Word of God teaches us that evil Spirits are fallen angels who have been dethroned by the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our contact with these demons should  be with the knowledge that Jesus defeated them, spoiled them, and put them to nought. (Col. 2:15)  And now that Jesus dethroned them we can reign over them!
